A chipper blends aspects of a putter and a wedge to make certain shots around the green much easier. Its loft is higher than a putter (often similar to a 7‑ or 8‑iron), so it can lift the ball up enough to clear fringe or light rough, but low enough that the ball lands softly and rolls — ideal for what golfers call a “bump‑and‑run.”
